This is a very optimistic and delightful gavotte. It is recommended to emphasize the rhythmic interest created by the combination of a sixteenth note and a dotted eighth note. In practice, many performances with different rhythms are available as videos. It is uncertain whether these represent entirely different editions, or if the rhythms are intentionally altered or embellished. However, it is advisable to first read the piece as written in the score.
The piece is structured in an ABA form. In the A section, the tension builds towards the A in measure 3. From the second beat of measure 4, the notes descend. In this case, either a diminuendo or a crescendo would be appropriate.
In the B section, the tension increases towards the highest note, C, in measure 11, after which the volume gradually decreases. From measure 18, the A section returns. What distinguishes this return is the introduction of new highest notes, D, in measures 21, 26, and 28, which were not present before, further increasing the tension.
