As this piece is in duple meter, a relatively brisk tempo is suitable if one aims to feel two beats per measure. Given the desired light and sprightly character, all notes may be played staccato, with the exception of quarter notes that are paired with two eighth notes (e.g., the pattern on the first beat of measure 1).
It may also be effective to play quarter notes staccato and eighth notes legato.
The first half features the repetition of two nearly identical phrases, with no modulation from C minor. For the second phrase (from the second beat of measure 4 to measure 8), introduce variation, perhaps through dynamic contrast or other expressive means.
The latter half culminates in an E-flat major cadence at measure 12. E-flat major may be rendered with a gentler timbre compared to C minor. From measures 12 to 13, ensure that the inner voice of the right hand's sixth intervals does not become overly prominent. The climactic point of this gavotte is not found in the first half; rather, it is advisable to establish the peak around measures 13-14 in the latter half.
