C-sharp major, 2/4 time, Molto Allegro, Spiritoso.
This piece won first prize unanimously from the judges in the 1903 composition competition.
It is highly popular among Granados's works and is frequently performed on stage.
Approximate performance time: around 10 minutes.
Following a highly brilliant and active introductory section, a sweet and poignant melody unfolds beautifully. This clearly reveals Granados's romantic side, influenced by Schumann and Chopin. On the other hand, the bold movements utilizing octaves and the sweeping arpeggios are reminiscent of Liszt's works. Within the propulsion supported by the left hand, each delicate note should resonate individually to build up the overall grand sound.
