Composed in 1884 and published the following year, this is a collection of piano arrangements of Grieg's own songs, containing six arrangements from five song collections (Op. 9-2, Op. 15-1, Op. 18-2, EG 133, Op. 21-3) composed between 1863 and 1872. His wife and cousin, Nina, was a singer. Grieg composed approximately 140 songs throughout his life and considered them to hold a very important position in his own creative work.
