Presto - extremely fast - Andante amabile e con moto - at a walking pace, amiably, and with motion - Tempo I - at the initial tempo
The opening Presto, consisting of 6 measures (4+2), passes like a gust of wind, and the subsequent main section takes 3 measures as its basic unit. Following a 6-measure antecedent phrase (mm. 7-12) where the right hand hesitantly articulates over the left hand's open fifths, and a 6-measure consequent phrase resembling a rich string quartet, a short 3-measure codetta is appended, featuring triplet figures in the right hand fluttering over a leisurely, dance-like left hand. After the triplet motif from the codetta is developed from measure 22, the antecedent phrase reappears with the open fifths transformed into triplets, creating a mysterious atmosphere, and the consequent phrase undergoes a transformation so profound that it barely retains its original form, with double thirds ascending across a wide range. Only the codetta reappears with the same figuration, further developing and seemingly fluttering down from the heavens, then sinking into the antecedent phrase which descends as if reflected in a mirror. Just when it seems to have settled, the opening gust of wind sweeps through, revealing that it was all but an ephemeral dream.
