From measures 49 to 64, the melody of "Grandfather's Dance" (Jijii-sama no Odori) appears, which is quoted in the finale of Butterflies, Op. 2. This is an old traditional round dance that functioned as a closing piece at banquets, intended to revive a cheerful mood. A parody of this song became highly popular in the 19th century. The work depicts a contrasting scene: a cold, dark outdoor landscape with snow falling heavily, and children playing cheerfully in a warm room.
