This work was attempted to be composed in the summer of 1991 but remained unfinished as it did not meet the composer's satisfaction. On this occasion, by inserting the Pali text of 'Dhammapada No. 183 = The Seven Buddhas' Admonition (Shichibutsu Tsūkaige)', the work gained a broader scope. This aims at the manifestation of the religious nature of Sakutarō's poetry, which is said to be a visualization of nihilistic life perception. The propriety of inserting something else into a completed poem in this manner I wish to entrust to the judgment of history. Incidentally, the title 'Ethnologue' means something akin to 'folk tale'.
