In scholarly research, this work has historically been positioned as the second movement of K. 79, although there is no definitive evidence. In the latest critical edition, the Gilbert edition, the measure numbers are also continuously numbered from K. 79. The entire piece adopts a clear formal structure consisting of two- or four-measure phrases. Furthermore, the richness of harmonic color, such as the chromatic harmonic changes beginning with the anacrusis in measure 5, brief harmonic shifts, and modulations, is characteristic of Scarlatti's sonatas.
