The work is constructed around a motif consisting of an embellished neighboring tone figure and a leap of a third, and scales. In the latter half, the scales become ascending, and the two motifs combine. The latter half begins with a recapitulation of the opening phrase, but a new two-bar sequence starts from the bar corresponding to the fourth bar. The return of the fourth bar occurs later, and the rest of the first half is recapitulated as if using it as an anacrusis. As a result, the original function of the fourth bar, which closes the phrase, becomes ambiguous.
