It consists of an alternation between a polyphonic texture rich in suspensions and a homophonic texture where the upper voice forms arpeggiated sequences. While the former, rich in suspensions and chromatic progressions, and the latter, with its consistent harmonic rhythm, are harmonically contrasting, the rhythmic motive of dotted quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter notes is common to both, and, together with the continuous eighth-note complementary rhythm, it can be said to create a sense of unity throughout the entire work.
