The disruption of syntax caused by slight variations in repeated figures propels the music forward. For instance, the descending G-C in bar 6, beat 1, due to its commonality with the immediately preceding one-bar motif, suggests a third repetition of the same motif. However, the subsequent scale here adopts the figure from the fourth beat of the preceding two bars, leading to an arpeggio that connects to a sequence based on different material. Similarly, in bar 19, the latter half of the bar is slightly altered from bar 18, transitioning to a new sequence. Furthermore, the commonality of descending arpeggios at both the beginning and end is considered a characteristic ambiguous use of motifs by this composer.
