This work was premiered in October 2006 at the concert "Dranoff Gold!" during "Festival Miami," commissioned by the piano duo Hisashi Seo & Shinichiro Kato.
Composing for the "piano four-hands" format, which has almost no repertoire in contemporary times, proved extremely challenging. However, ideas began to emerge as I contemplated the historical role of four-hand playing as a setting for encounters between men and women, the festive atmosphere of "Dranoff Gold!", and my thoughts on the composer Ligeti, who had a profound influence on my musical language and passed away in June of that year. I was thus able to complete the work. Of course, the immense presence of Seo & Kato was always an encouragement during the composition process, and they were also comrades in exploring new forms of four-hand playing.
The piece consists of:
- Movement I: Where the wind blows through
- Movement II: A festival with drum rolls
In addition to Seo & Kato, the American "ZOFO duet" has also performed this work.
