Judging from the 2/2 time signature, this is not a particularly slow piece. The quarter notes should be played staccato to remove any heaviness. Since it's a two-voice interplay, try playing each voice separately first, ensuring that the left-hand voice also shapes its phrases and avoids sounding flat.
Comparing measures 1-2 with 3-4 in the first half, measures 3-4 have higher tension, so apply a crescendo. Furthermore, measures 5-6 have even higher tension. Ultimately, consider the cadence in measures 7-8 as the goal, aiming to reach it.
Measures 9-13 modulate to B-flat major. A soft tone and volume would be appropriate here. From measure 13, a sequence begins, leading to F-sharp and a return to G minor. Try ending forte, with measure 17 as the peak point.
The title is "The Fool," but there's no need to be overly constrained by it. It can also be interpreted as an expression of a certain kind of joy.
