About the Work
This work was composed at the commission of Mr. Toyohisa Ishi. Inspired by the myths and rituals transmitted in the Izumo and Iwami regions, the composer sought to trace another narrative behind the "Yamata no Orochi (Eight-Forked Serpent) Legend" appearing in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki (Kiki).
It was premiered in October 2005 by Toyohisa Ishi (Vc) and Satoko Tsutsumi (Pf) at the "Kyoto Young Composers' Series Exhibition XXXII" (Kyoto Concert Hall, Small Hall), and has since been performed repeatedly.
The piece consists of three continuous movements.
