Composed in 1915, this work was written for charitable support. It is a small-scale piece in 4/4 time, totaling 21 measures. The main melody is almost entirely carried by the left hand, played in the low register as if creeping along. In this piece, marked Lento and prone to stagnation, even exuding a melancholic atmosphere, the use of triplets, small note values (e.g., 32nd notes), and ornaments seems to imbue it with vitality. Dynamic markings are limited to pp, and while there are also indications for crescendo and decrescendo, the piece is generally quiet.
